Davies named Coach of the Year

Winstars Tracy Davies chosen as "Coach of the Year"

Winstars Tracy Davies, a veteran coach of almost 20 years, is Gymnastics Ontario's "Coach of the Year".

Davies, a former artistic and tumbling athlete herself, was presented by her good friend, Heather Smiley, with this honour on the weekend at the Gymnastics Ontario annual awards banquet. Tracy has worked for Winstars since it opened in 2000. For years, Tracy worked as a fitness instructor and desk staff in our fitness centre in our last two locations.

Provincial & National Champions

Since moving to Central Park Athletics in 2013, she has worked as a coach in the Tumbling program. In addition, Tracy works in the office as our competitive program administrator. Tracy has coached many athletes over the years and has had several provincial and national champions.

Most recently, Tracy (and fellow coach Rob), have coached Alexandra Jubenville for some time. Jubenville will be attending the World Age Group Trampoline & Tumbling Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria in November. Alex has competed at two previous international competitions last year in Portugal and New Zealand.

Winstars is very fortunate to have Tracy on our staff. We congratulate her for the years of coaching service to these young athletes. This "Coach of the Year" award is very well deserved.

Trampoline & Tumbling

This year Winstars has seven T&T athletes attending these championships taking place in Amherst, NS competing in all three trampoline disciplines. Both coach Rob and Alyssa are excited to travel to the east coast with these hard working athletes.

  • Alexa M. in DMT
  • Ayla M in DMT
  • Ava M. in DMT and Tumbling
  • Alexa M. in DMT and Trampoline
  • Jacqueline C. in Tumbling
  • Sofia D. in Tumbling
  • Anis B. in DMT

No Boundaries or Barriers

Winstars is so excited to have Anis B. qualify to these championships. Anis B., who has autism, is an amazing person and hard working athlete. Anis B. recently brought home his first gold medal at the 3rd T&T qualifier in Oshawa. Winstars is so proud of Anis B. and his outstanding accomplishments in this sport. There are NO boundaries or barriers for this young man in his sporting career. Go Anis!!

Women's Artistic Gymnastics

This is the first year that Winstars has had a WAG athlete qualify for Eastern's taking place this year in Sackville, NB. Holly L. has worked very hard over the last several years after coming back from a devastating injury from breaking both arms in a gymnastics fall. She has persevered and challenged herself to improve her skill level in order to compete at Level 7 the last two years. It's this determination which has allowed her the success of qualifying for these championships as a member of the Ontario four member team.

We congratulate Holly L. and coach Karen on their great success this year!

Best of luck to all our Winstars athletes in the east coast!!

Canadian Gymnastics Week

Canadian Gymnastics Week

Canadian Gymnastics Week

Winstars Gymnastics was excited to participate in the Canadian Gymnastics Week which took place February 12-18, 2017.

This is a great opportunity to show call Canadians and more importantly, Windsorites, just what the sport of gymnastics is all about. In essence, gymnastics starts with dominant movement patterns (DMP) which then equate to the potential skills learned throughout the life of a gymnast. These dominant movement patterns allow the gymnast to learn the basic fundamentals of gymnastics by progressing through various skills progressions which will eventually lead to the development of pure gymnastics skills.

Sports start right here. Be a part of it!

At Winstars Gymnastics, "Sports start right here. Be a part of it!" is our tag line which helps explain how the sport of gymnastics will and can benefit ALL other sports that a child may participate in. A child may ultimately choose a sport such as soccer after sometime in gymnastics. But, after being involved in gymnastics we can tell you this soccer player is going to have more agility and body awareness than your average soccer player.

During each day of #CdnGymWeek, we focussed on these DMP's. Have a look at the ways our happy gymnasts learned how to master these DMP's.

Thanks to all our amazing staff for continuing to promote and teach this great sport of gymnastics. Special thanks to Holly for capturing all of these great Winstars moments. #winstarsrocks
