Winstars Gymnastics was excited to participate in the Canadian Gymnastics Week which took place February 12-18, 2017.
This is a great opportunity to show call Canadians and more importantly, Windsorites, just what the sport of gymnastics is all about. In essence, gymnastics starts with dominant movement patterns (DMP) which then equate to the potential skills learned throughout the life of a gymnast. These dominant movement patterns allow the gymnast to learn the basic fundamentals of gymnastics by progressing through various skills progressions which will eventually lead to the development of pure gymnastics skills.
At Winstars Gymnastics, "Sports start right here. Be a part of it!" is our tag line which helps explain how the sport of gymnastics will and can benefit ALL other sports that a child may participate in. A child may ultimately choose a sport such as soccer after sometime in gymnastics. But, after being involved in gymnastics we can tell you this soccer player is going to have more agility and body awareness than your average soccer player.
During each day of #CdnGymWeek, we focussed on these DMP's. Have a look at the ways our happy gymnasts learned how to master these DMP's.
Thanks to all our amazing staff for continuing to promote and teach this great sport of gymnastics. Special thanks to Holly for capturing all of these great Winstars moments. #winstarsrocks

Winstars would like to remind our members that our recreational program will have NO classes from December 24 to January 6, 2017 (inclusive).
From our Winstars family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas. Winstars wishes you safe travels where ever they make take you during these holidays.
The sport of gymnastics is not easy that's for sure! As each athlete trains hard 2-4 days per week for 3-4 hours, they see small steps in the progress of skills.
But, the KIP on bars is the ultimate skill to learn and is the most difficult technically for those young gymnasts. To accomplish this skill is so satisfying it makes many athletes want to scream with joy.
But, when you learn your KIP and your team mates are screaming with encouragement and happiness, that is priceless.
Congratulations to all those Winstars athletes who have learned their KIP recently!!

Winstars Sarah P. came home with a 9th place overall in the Level 8 category at the recent Tour Selection meet in Belleville. The tour this year will travel to the Lady Lucky Invitational in Las Vegas. Sarah has been named an alternate for this team. Sarah captured a silver medal on vault, bronze on floor exercise and 9th overall.
Other Winstars athletes who attended this competition were Alyssa C., Kathryn R., Holly L. (who placed 5th on beam) and Portia Rain S. For all of the young girls this was their first experience at a Tour Selection competition.
Congratulations to Sarah P. and the other girls for their outstanding efforts. This is just the beginning of great things to come from these young ladies.
Congratulations to their coaches, Holly and Karen, for the amazing effort they put forth with our Winstars athletes.
